Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Option

The accelerated one-year BSN curriculum was developed for students who have a previous Bachelors degree in a non-nursing field. The one-year, full-time, web-enhanced format (August to August) is designed to provide you with the theory and clinical knowledge necessary to practice in the ever-changing field of nursing. The program offers students over 1100 clinical hours, in a variety of sites as well as in the prestigious HCA Midwest facilities. Accelerated students also must satisfactorily complete prerequisites:  liberal arts, science and two nursing courses, and complete 15 hours of residency at Rockhurst University. Following completion of the one-year program students are eligible to sit for the RN licensure exam (NCLEX-RN).

Admission requirements are:

  • Bachelor's Degree (in a field other than nursing) from an accredited college or university
  • GPA 2.8 on 4.0 scale

It is highly recommended that if you are interested in this program to make an appointment with the Director of Transfer and Graduate Recruitment.  A plan of study can be drafted for you, based on your previous course work and the required prerequisites.  Students find this very helpful and useful.

Application Process operates on a rolling admission basis, reviewing applications as they are submitted:

  • Complete admission application (you can download, print and mail in an application (pdf file)
  • Nonrefundable $25 application fee
  • Up-to-date, official transcripts of credit are sent from all previously attended colleges. A B- or better must be earned in each of the science pre-requisites (Chemisty, Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology). A minimum of two science courses with a grade of B- or better must be completed before an admission decision will be made.
  • Submit two letters of reference, you can download and print a reference form (pdf file)
  • An interview will be scheduled with a member of the Accelerated Option Admission Committee.  Please read the Accelerated Option Pre-Interview Guide, make a copy and bring it to your faculty interview.  There is a place on the form for you to write your interview date, time, location and faculty interviewer.  At the end of the guide is a place to write additional questions you have.  We hope this guide will prove helpful in facilitating the interview process for both you and your interviewer.  The website and the FAQ section below have answers to many questions.
